Interesting facts about me

Full Name: Mason Alberdine Wishart

Age and Year: 15, fifth year prefect

Wand: 13", cherry wood, dragon heartstring

Blood Type: Semi-mixed (See Family and History)

Physical Description:

Mason is an angular, gangly boy of average height. At fifteen, his limbs and hands have grown, but the rest of him has yet to catch up. His skin slightly borders on pale, but not to a shocking degree. He has a head full of finely textured, medium brown hair that falls just below his ears and often falls into his blue-green eyes.

He dresses in a sort of modern Oxford style, favoring layered sweaters over button up shirts, dark jeans, and similar clothing.

Personality:

Mason is a boy of habits. He rarely deviates from his usual, whether that's his study habits, his haircut, or his flavor of morning tea. He has a waspish temper, though, that is easy to set off, especially concerning his magical abilities (see Family and History.) On the other hand, he forgives quickly and easily, and is willing to apologize for his own short fuse as soon as he's cooled off.

He prefers socializing in small groups. While he doesn't attach himself easily, once he has grown used to people, he sticks by them. He sees no reason why reading can't be a social activity, and quite enjoys sitting back-to-back with a friend in amicable silence or sharing a book aloud.

He has a deep-seated need to prove himself, especially academically. This is not problematic for his strengths, but is more so when his efforts to prove himself inevitably fail in his weaker subjects. Fortunately, he is willing to work hours to get ahead, though this only goes so far in subjects he is not naturally inclined towards. He is one of the oft-envied few that require only a handful of hours of sleep, and is frequently already dressed and writing a letter home by the time that his housemates' alarms go off. When he needs more time to work, this trait becomes useful. He is privately very competitive about House Points.

Mason has no real sense of creativity, concerning art, literature, music, or dance, though he can certainly appreciate fine skill in those areas. He is far more suited to dichotomous keys. He intends to be either a wandmaker, a Potions Master, or an Unspeakable. It would help him decide if he could get someone from the Ministry to actually tell him what an Unspeakable does, but that would defeat the purpose entirely.

Likes: Technical details, linguistics, lemon cookies, old philosophers, and people that aren't annoyed by sarcasm.

Dislikes: Braggarts, hypocrites, tomatoes, and the misuse of apostrophes.

Family and History:

Mason hails from Scotland, a descendant of the Lowlands Wishart family on his father's side. Mason's father, Thomas, was a wizard, but his mother, Lara, was a squib from a wizarding family. Due to his semi-mixed heritage, he was raised in wizarding culture, but is magically very weak. While most would consider him to be almost a squib, he would argue that on the technical point that squibs are born to two wizarding parents, and he only had one.

He finds wandwork very difficult; his parents were mildly surprised he received a Hogwarts letter. Because of this, he naturally falls towards magical studies that require less active magic use - Potions, History of Magic, Ancient Runes, and the like. He despises, for obvious reasons, magically intensive classes like Charms and Transfiguration, and always prays not to be called on for a practical in-class test.

While he is always overly defensive about his magic, he is especially disappointed in himself when it comes to his lack of abilities in Transfiguration. He's read volumes upon volumes about Animagi, and, when he was younger, dreamed of learning to become one. He has since discovered that, with his magical abilities, the chances of that occurring are next to nothing. He's still a bit bitter about that.

He is an only child, as his parents had him when they were slightly older than most new parents. Sometimes he thinks he might have liked a brother or sister, but he doesn't dwell on it. He stays in good contact with his parents through a frequent exchange of owls. He's forced to use the unreliable school owls, as he already has a familiar - an orange tabby, Luther, who is fond of shedding.

During his first three years at Hogwarts, he situated himself into his house and small circle of friends, and took the necessary classes. He frequently attends Quidditch games - not because he has any vested interest in sports, but because one of his close friends is an avid follower. He occasionally throws out Quidditch words and just lets his friend talk. He retains hopes of becoming a prefect one day, but would be unsurprised if he was not chosen.

He gets along surprisingly well with several of the ghosts, though definitely not all. He's fairly certain that his friendship with them is founded solely on his complete willingness to sit and listen to them talk about their favorite subjects - their lives and their deaths. It's historically fascinating.
